In the summer of 1994, Hans Hartman went to scoop some ice cream for his daughter. The ice cream was quite hard and when he went to scoop the ice cream for his daughter, a chunk broke off and went sailing across the kitchen into the living room, where their dog immediately gobbled up the delicious treat.
Because the ice cream was so hard there was no easy way to scoop the ice cream without using excessive force to push against the frozen ice cream. Hans opened a kitchen drawer and grabbed a fork. pushing the fork into the ice cream, he was able to use much less force to spread the frozen ice cream apart then he was able to easily push the scoop into the ice cream itself seeing the fork in one hand and the ice cream scoop in the other Hans had a very unique idea put a fork onto the end of an ice cream scoop. Thus began the 28-year Odyssey to create ”The World’s Best Ice Cream Scoop”. The last year of testing was to find the perfect material to have the ice cream scoops produced. Every time Hans would use the hammer method to check the integrity of the teeth on the scoop, they would snap off. The “hammer method”, is to place the teeth of the scoop on the concrete floor, bowl down. Then with a 36oz hammer, Hans would strike the scoop from the back.
Using the Surgical Grade Nylon that is in every TWBICS, we have yet to have any failures of the product! If the TWBICS fails while using it to scoop ice cream, or it is damaged in a regular washing cycle (with temperatures up to 400°f) we will replace the scoop for free and refund the shipping to send the scoop back to us. We want to license TWBICS to a company that will handle world-wide rights in all markets. We currently have a single injection mold cavity and produce everything in the USA. Our scoop is patented, and the patent has more than 15 years left (at the time of writing). Currently, TWBICS is being sold online at certain retail outlets, including MoMA in New York City, and will be featured in the 2024 addition of WIRED Magazine's "Cool Design" Issue.
